Congenital Choledochal Cyst


Abstract
Cystic dilatation of the common bile duct is an uncommon congenital lesion that may produce. symptoms in infancy but more often is discoveredd at some time during the first two decades of life..
Nore than 500 cases have been reported in the English literature up to date and authors were able to collect 44 cases in Korean. literature including the present series.
Present study in the review of 10_cases of choledochal cyst surgically treated at the -Depart. of Gent-Surgery College of Medicine, S.N.U. between the period of Feb. 1970-to Dec. 1975
1. All except one had the type1 choleclochal cyst. The exception was the one: case of type
)I anomaly
2. Five cases (50%) were over 20 yrs of age at the time of treatment and 80% were female with male to femaleratio of 1 to 4:
3. The most frequently observed symptoms ,were jaundice(90%)-mass (70%), and abdominal
pain (60%) All three of the triad were-present in 30% of the cases.
4. Pre-operative diagnosis were correct in 50% of the cases.
5. Preferred type of operation is choledochocystojejunostomy of Roux-en.Y type (70%)
though choledcchocystoduodenostomy was also employed (30%)
6. There was one recurrence due-to obstruction at the anastomatic site, another required
reoperation for intestinal obstruction but there was no mortality.
